About

Relationships Matter To Us

Birnie Bus Service has been providing safe, high-quality, reliable student transportation since 1947 – it’s what we do, and it’s a valued and trusted partnership you can rely on. Our goal is not to generate the most numbers, but rather to ensure efficiency and quality. With 12 locations throughout New York State, our Corporate Headquarters still flourishes in Rome, NY. Birnie Bus Service also proudly provides services for tour groups, corporate travel, public transportation, and handicapped services throughout New York.

As a member of the Student Transportation of America Family of Companies, we are backed by the support and resources of our North American parent organization while being able to maintain the relationships we have built over years of service to the local community, right here at home. A Family Touch

A Family Touch

Birnie Bus began as a modest local operation in 1947 when Martin K. Birnie joined his brother-in-law’s small transportation business, with just a handful of school buses, coaches, and a station wagon. By 1960, Birnie Bus Service Inc. was officially incorporated, and with the addition of George Marsh as a partner in 1964, our company rapidly expanded. The 1970s marked a period of major transformation as we secured a significant transportation contract with the Rome City School District and reentered the charter bus market under the guidance of Timothy Birnie, who left a teaching career to join the family business full-time. The momentum continued into the 1980s with federal approval to operate tours across the U.S. and the creation of a specialized transportation program for individuals with disabilities, a service that now represents a significant portion of our operations.

Growth & Expansion

Growth & Expansion

Through decades of steady growth, strategic partnerships, and a deep commitment to community-focused service, Birnie Bus has evolved into a trusted name in the transportation industry. In 2008, we joined the Trailways System, expanding our charter reach even further, and later became a division of Krapf School Bus.

Today, as a proud member of the Student Transportation of America Family of Companies, we continue our legacy of delivering high-quality, dependable transportation solutions. With roots in family values and a long-standing dedication to serving students and communities alike, Birnie remains a trusted partner for transportation services in communities throughout the State of New York.
