Birnie Trailways Joins Team's Rank
ROME-NY Birnie Trailways of Rome, NY, joins the ranks of Team Trailways and with New York members Adirondack, New York, Paradise, Pine Hill, and West Point Trailways, expands the team's service coverage throughout the Empire State.
Founded in 1947, by Martin K. Birnie, the family business has grown from 12 employees, one motorcoach, two school buses, and a station wagon to 1,000 school buses, 36 motorcoaches, and 1,400 employees who work from 18 locations around the state. School transportation is the majority of Birnie Trailways' business, along with transit and charter contracts. Tim Birnie, president, said the company does all non-emergency Medicaid transport in three counties, and operates scheduled route service between Syracuse and Little Falls.
Birnie said he wanted his company to be a member of Team Trailways for the synergies the network's affiliation provides to independent operators.
"We have a changing business climate, and I believe the buying power and road repair access the system offers us will be very valuable," he said. "The brand recognition is paramount as well," added Birnie. "We are always looking for new business opportunities, and the Trailways brand will bring many to us because of its credibility with the traveling public."
Like all North American-based Trailways companies, Birnie Trailways maintains certification by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), which ensures its military and all other customers of its commitment to the most stringent safe operating practices in the industry. Only DOD safety-certified companies may transport military personnel.
Birnie Trailways' long business history in upstate New York and exemplary operating standards make it a great addition to our team, said Gale Ellsworth, Trailways president and CEO. "Birnie's affiliation broadens the system to 82 independent transportation companies, positioned across North America and Europe," she said. "The network continues to expand because the brand has a formidable 73-year service legacy behind it. Our record speaks for itself; transportation buyers know they can count on Trailways for the level of service they need and expect," concluded Ellsworth.
